Photographers disembark near Lyon. French. Original title: Arrivée des congressistes à Neuville-sur-Saône
Like in their slightly older Workers Leaving the Factory, the subject of this one-minute Lumières short is a group of people leaving Point A (in the background), walking past us and heading toward point C (somewhere behind the camera). The difference between the films is the social makeup of the group—upper class photographers, not lower class labourers—and its reactions: a calm, more relaxed attitude in response to the presence of the camera, whether acknowledging it (with a tip of the hat) or walking by without taking notice. Unlike some of the workers, who scurried past as if afraid or shy, the photographers move with confidence.
