A 20th-century(!) Lumières short, but probably not directed by the Brothers. The topic is bullfighting from the point-of-view of the audience. French. Original title: ?
This short reminds me of contemporary sports broadcasts, especially hockey games when the camera zooms out to take in the action as well as the people sitting in the stands. The result is less immersion in the game and more immersion in the atmosphere of the arena. It’s like being once removed, from the players, instead of twice-removed, from the players and the live audience. The same effect is achieved here, where, although the bull and his fighter are the subject, the people and hats in the foreground are just as interesting. Poor bull, though; and the bullfight looks anything but exciting.
