Two Interviews with Kenzaburō Ōe

The first interview was for watching and listening. This one from The Paris Review is for reading. But who is Kenzaburō Ōe? He’s a Japanese author and recent recipient of the Nobel Prize for Literature. More than a dozen of his books have been translated into English. In 1961, the Japanese filmmaker Nagisa Oshima (1932-2013) adapted his novella into the film The Catch. Dennis Grunes has a write-up of the film here.

In principle, I am an anarchist. Kurt Vonnegut once said he was an agnostic who respects Jesus Christ. I am an anarchist who loves democracy.
